LED lamp, fluorescent lamp, incandescent lamp, which kind of lamp is more eye-friendly?

2021-12-17

Since the birth of electric lamps, three generations of representative life lighting products have appeared: incandescent lamps, fluorescent lamps, and LED light sources.

Regarding the difference between these types of light sources, people usually choose according to the light efficiency and lifespan of the lamp. But now that people are increasingly pursuing health and safety, which of these three lights is more eye-protective? To see whether the light source protects the eyes, the comparison is mainly from the following aspects: brightness, color rendering, stroboscopic, and blue light.

brightness

Long-term use of the eyes under dim light can easily cause eye fatigue, so it is important to ensure a certain brightness of the lighting source.

The brightness comparison of the three light sources is familiar to everyone.

Because of the difference in luminous efficiency, the brightness under the same power, LED light source>fluorescent lamp>incandescent lamp.

Color rendering index

The color rendering index is the ability of the light source to restore the color of things.

Under a light source with a poor color rendering index, the sensitivity of the cone cells of the human eye will be reduced, and the brain will intentionally or unintentionally focus more when discerning things, which may cause eye fatigue and even myopia. Therefore, for the lighting source, The higher the color rendering index, the better the eye protection.

The color rendering of natural light is the highest 100, and the color rendering of artificial light sources cannot reach this value. In this comparison, the incandescent lamp with the lowest brightness turned over. With a theoretical color rendering degree close to 100, the incandescent lamp ranks first among the three light sources.

The color rendering of the LED light source has a great relationship with the chip used. The color rendering of the LED light source using high-quality chips can exceed 80 or even 95.

Among the fluorescent lamps, CFL fluorescent lamps using three-primary phosphors can achieve a color rendering of more than 80, and some high-end products can reach 90.

Strobe

Let me talk about why the lights produce stroboscopic.

The electricity we use in our lives is not direct current, but alternating current that fluctuates at a frequency of 50 Hz, so as long as it is not processed, the lights we see will flicker. The flicker frequency is too fast, usually our eyes cannot catch it.

The best way to eliminate flicker is to convert alternating current into direct current.

LED lights can be driven by non-flicker LEDs to effectively avoid flicker.

Incandescent lamps also have stroboscopic light, but incandescent lamps generate light from the heating of the filament, so its brightness is inertial. At frequencies up to 50Hz, the stroboscopic flicker of incandescent lamps is almost negligible.

Next, we will talk about the "big flashers" fluorescent lamps.

Everyone may have experienced the frequent flicker of fluorescent lights. In fact, the flicker we see is not the normal stroboscopic flicker of fluorescent lights, but because of malfunctions, the flicker frequency of fluorescent lights has been slowed down.

Under normal circumstances, the flicker frequency of inductive ballasts for fluorescent lamps is 50Hz, and the frequency of electronic ballasts is generally 20KHz to 40KHz, plus the afterglow of phosphors, this frequency is invisible to the naked eye.

Blu-ray

Short-wave blue light is light with a relatively high energy wavelength between 400nm and 480nm. Among them, shortwave blue light with a wavelength between 400nm and 450nm is harmful to the retina to a greater extent.

The blue light that is harmful to human eyes mainly comes from mobile phones and LED displays.

There is blue light in all light sources. If you want to avoid the blue light in the lighting source from harming your eyes, the best way is to avoid looking directly at the light source.

Of course, the blue light in the lighting source is far from the level that can hurt the eyes. As long as you buy a regular brand of light source products, you don't need to worry about blue light damage.

On the whole, the LED lamp has sufficient brightness, high color rendering, no flicker, no blue light hazard, and more eye protection. It is an ideal choice as a new generation of lighting source.
